Communal Creation
"What’s the next big thing?"
"Who will come up with the new greatest idea?"
Impossible to know, really.
But what we do know is this: "New” is never totally new. It’s always one degree different from the thing before, entirely dependent on the work that preceded it.
And here’s another thing we know: One person is never fully responsible. Any great leader, entrepreneur, inventor, innovator will be the first to say, despite the public's focus on their accomplishment, their team is to credit.
Why is this important?
In an age of mass information access, over stimulation, too little time, and the widespread belief that individuals are responsible for creating change, we forget that it’s communities that make the difference.
Communities innovate more brilliantly.
Problem solve more effectively.
Change more sustainably.
It’s never one person.
It’s many persons.
The next big thing always begins as a small creative solution—in community.
*Remember, there are at least five alternative ways to engage your community, church, neighborhood, workplace, company. Please, stop the information-dumping.
-
-
- Getting attention (in the midst of mind-numbing information overload).
- Earning permission (to share, to be heard, and ultimately to be trusted).
- Delivering on expectations (of the people that gave you permission to share through the noise).
- Facilitating connection (in the form of a genuine community).
- Inspiring creation (of solutions in partnership with the community).
