Don’t Text and…
[Avoiding Distractions - IV]
Texting and driving is as bad as drinking and driving. Texting is a distraction. And distractions while responsible for a 2,000 lb. moving piece of metal can be a lethal combination. But texting while driving is not the only texting problem.
Texting and eating is problematic as well. Indigestion rates are skyrocketing.
Also not helpful: texting during a meeting, or presentation, or class. Partially present means never fully present.
Texting and exercising. Yup, that’s a disruption, too.
Is texting always the problem? No. Actually, texting is almost never the problem. Access is the problem. Access to what? To our attention.
When we leave the front door to our attention wide open, anybody can walk right in and sit on our sofa. Nobody can ignore someone in his living room.
Close the door.
Put the phone away.
