People Like Us: 2020
People like us that are unwilling to continue in ways like this know that 2020 will be different. It must be different.
Will a new president radically shift the political discourse?
Will new neurological insights reduce the epidemic of loneliness?
Will breaking up the biggest monopolies level out the economy?
Will a new medical discovery reduce coronary heart disease in half?
Will a new G8 summit change our environmental crash course?
Will a new spiritual guru solve the pervasive religious animosity?
Will a new prescription drug temper mass anxiety?
Not likely. But really we don’t know.
All of us do know this: deep within, there is one thing, one spark, one restless thought, that churns over and over, waiting to be attended to.
The past is inconsequential at this point. The future is unknown. But that thing, that issue, that idea that is in you right now is the beginning of your role in a better tomorrow.
Whatever change there is in 2020, it will be people like us attending to that deep yearn.
Happy New Year.
